Legal Sea Foods Brand Identity

Legal Sea Foods - a 50-year-old Boston institution and the go-to spot for a proper chowder,  had lost its shine. Once beloved by locals and tourists alike, years of decline had left the brand adrift. When PPX Investments stepped in to rescue it, the goal was clear: make Legal great again. Bring back the pride, the flavour, and the loyal crowd who know what good seafood’s supposed to taste like. Heist was brought in to restore the heart of this hometown legend - a place where Bostonians could feel at home, and visitors could get a real taste of the city.

What we were dealin’ with

Legal Sea Foods, a 75-year-old Boston institution and the go-to spot for a proper chowder, had lost its shine. Once beloved by locals and tourists alike, years of decline had left the brand adrift. When PPX Investments stepped in to rescue it, the goal was clear, make Legal great again. Bring back the pride, the flavour, and the loyal crowd who know what good seafood's supposed to taste like. Heist was brought in to restore the heart of this hometown legend, a place where Bostonians could feel at home, and visitors could get a real taste of the city

We started by reimagining the brand through the eyes of the locals. gathering a crew of loyal fans, staff, regulars, tourists, and city officials to workshop the stories and heritage that shaped Legal's legacy. From those sessions came the ideas that inspired the rebirth of the brand.

Cracking Good Chowder

Out went the tired, cartoonish logo. In came a bold new symbol, crab crackers forming the shape of a New England lighthouse, a nod to the region's rugged coastline, deep fishing roots, and cracking good chowder. We built a complete visual system from the ground up, a fresh colour palette, refined typography, custom illustrations, product photography. a redesigned website, and storytelling that flowed through films, signage. social, and local advertising. Every touchpoint worked to remind people that Legal Sea Foods is Boston through and through.

Wicked Good results

The comeback's been real. Restaurant traffic is up, with more guests per location than at any point since before COVID. Loyalty program enrolments have surged, and community buzz is back in full force. On social media, the brand's following has more than tripled to 77K, proof that Bostonians and visitors alike are once again lining up for a bowl of chowder from the place that does it best.
